Liver of Sulfur

Liver of Sulfur. I see so much mis-info on the Etsy Forums.
"Sulfurated potash (Liver of Sulfur) is a poorly defined mixture of potassium sulfide, potassium polysulfide, potassium thiosulfate, and probably potassium bisulfide. Synonyms include hepar sulfuris, Liver of sulfur, sulfurated potash, sulfurated potassa. Liver of sulfur is mainly used in metalworking to form a patina, turning copper alloys brown or black."
When you purchase Liver of Sulfur (LOS) you will receive a container of small yellow rocks. You will dissolve a small (dime size) piece in plain hot tap water, swirl or stir (I use a bamboo skewer) until dissolved and then submerge your metal piece to produce the black 'oxidized' surface finish that is seen so much on Etsy.
My jar (pic on right) is three weeks old. I made a LOS solution- and keep it tightly capped under the kitchen sink. When I need to patina a piece, I will fill the sink with the hottest tap water, place the jewelry piece in the LOS, close the lid and put the jar in the sink full of water. I check the piece of jewelry every five minutes until the desired color is achieved. If left in to long, you will have black flakes- which can be removed with a light brushing with an old toothbrush. Rinse your jewelry well and Dry thoroughly. Now you can leave completely dark, or polish the raised areas for a contrast of light and dark.
If your client is allergic to eggs, there is the potential for a reaction to a LOS patina piece.
Have a wonderful, creative day.

July 1st-Let the Summer Begin

Anytime now! We here in Northern Illinois had some fine hot and humid summer weather last week- LOVED IT! We have such long winters here, I love to spend a few months sweating and just being Hot-Hot-Hot! However, mother nature is not cooperating, and this week, for the first three days, we have been cold, chilly, overcast, and drizzly. Supposed to start creeping back to warmer temps on Thursday, but Brrrr.....almost want to turn the heat on. Maybe I will start a fire, pretend we are on a Northern California beach having a bonfire.
July 4th-American Independence Day is this Saturday- so I offer up some great
Red White & Blue jewelry. Huge sale on my website- plan ahead for your gift giving occasions. Every piece is always shipped in our signature red gift box.
What are your plans for the July 4th holiday? I am working an art show in Dixon Illinois, at the John Dixon Park. My booth space is across from the playground- so my daughter will be occupied. Sunday, July 5th, I have an art show in Dekalb Illinois at the Ellwood House Museum. That is it for shows until Mid August. So please stop by and say hello- stimulate the economy, buy handmade art- beats mass produced any day of the week!
And don't forget to leave a comment to be entered to win the pendant picture on the right.
Peace~

Summertime & The Living is Easy

Fish are jumping, and the cotton is high.....Ohhhhh, Your Daddy's Rich, and Your Mama's Good Looking. Hush Little Baby, Do-on't you cry-y.

Ah yes, the screaming of the kids, the mosquito's, the heat, the humidity, the poison ivy, summer camp, vacations, and way too many hot dogs! Don't you just love the good old summer time.

This is a bracelet - anklet (adjustable) made from natural beach glass. Beach glass is becoming rare, as we shift to using papers and plastic AND we should not be throwing our rubbish into the ocean (or lakes or rivers, you get the idea). All of these pieces of stunning cobalt blue are hand drilled by me, hand wrapped in sterling silver, and dangle from a sterling silver chain. At a great price- only $50! (shhhh, don't tell how inexpensive this is- just snatch it up quick! http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=26090675)

What a great way to wear summer all year round!

Peace~

Holy Crap- what an ordeal!

I accidentally logged out of goggle (MISTAKE!) and for the freakin life of me, could not get logged back in! Whatever you do- WRITE IT DOWN- the loggin, the password, the secret clues. Whatever it is going to take to make your cyber life work. I had no bookmarks even. It was a completely frustrating couple of hours (yes, hours) when I felt like a totally pumpkin head.
Holy Crap- Google sucks, just a bit no? I tried to get 'help' from Google but guess what, you have to be signed in. How cyclical, I cannot sign in, so I cannot get help with signing in.
Sigh- but it is over now, the right combination finally came to my addled brain and voila! We are back in business.

Rock n Roll will Never Die!

My son (going into 6th grade- a dreaded pre-teen) will be in two weeks of Rock n Roll camp starting this coming Monday. I am getting so excited for him! While we do have season passes to the local water park (Magic Waters) , and this is the first full week of summer vacation, the weather has just not been cooperating! Today is rain and a high of 69. So he has spent this week writing songs, looking up the 'tabs' for songs that he wants to learn, and generally being productive and bored at the same time.
Rock Camp http://summer-rocks.com/index.php is at the local private school, and sponsored by Guzzardo's Music. http://www.guzzardomusic.com/mi/index.html
The mornings are spent in group lessons (all guitars, all bass, all drums, etc.) the afternoons are spent rehearsing with your "Band". On Friday evening the bands perform a rock concert at the local outdoor venue in the park, Sinnissippi Band Shell
This first Friday we are following the concert with Drinks on the Deck at our house.
And then it will be July! The summer is going to just fly by. And hopefully it will warm up and we can have a few days at the water park.
What are you and your family up this summer? I would love to hear-leave a comment!
Peace

Jumping on the YART SALE Bandwagon

If you have been paying attention, you know that I am not really a jump on the band wagon, follow the leader kinda gal. But when your neighbors are all having their garage sales, doesn't it make sense to have your garage sale on the sale day? That is the idea behind the ETSY YART SALE! (yard + Art) I have marked a lot of favorite pieces to 50% off (or more!) PLUS Free shipping! So take a look around at my dedicate YART SALE Section- and know that every other piece in my shop has been marked down by 20% or more, and free shipping!

Because It's Pretty-Sam!

I love the look of handmade chain. This bracelet is fused and hammered fine silver (99.9% pure silver). Adjustable with a small green opal trapezoid dangle. Amazingly lightweight and so very wearable. Art.
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25984500

Why do we buy things for our selves, our children, our homes-yards-cars? Because they are pretty. They put a smile on our faces. They make those around us smile.
Even in a 'recession' (some are now calling it an economic correction) people are still finding the time and money to do something nice for themselves. (their kids, their houses, their yards)

I had my knitting class last night. One, it is great to connect with people, new people, people from a different scope/direction/attitude. Two- because it's pretty Sam! The yarns carried in the shop where I take my lessons are amazing! http://www.uniqueyarnsinc.com/store/ I fully understand why people prefer to purchase some items (jewelry-yarn-candles) in person because these things need to be touched, tried on, smelled to fully be appreciated. I had purchase a skein of yarn, only 120 yards in length, because I loved the color variations- fuchsia, olive, brown, cream. It just really caught my eye. Then I had to find a pattern which would accommodate that small amount of yarn. I found this shrug pattern on Etsy by elanknits http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=16606379 . So I am working on a huge size 17 needle to make a wonderful, soft multicolored shrug for myself.

Why? Because it's pretty-Sam!

Peace~
